Clifton Springs Library was established in 1895 and after many changes of location found a permanent home in 1991 in a restored railroad station. The original building was built as the passenger station for the New York Central Railroad. After train service was discontinued in the late 1960s the building stood vacant for many years. In 1990 through the generosity of a community benefactor, the building was purchased and turned over to the Library Board of Trustees to become the library's home.
